TransAqua AGM Highlights 2025 Achievements and Future Priorities

RIVERVIEW, N.B. – TransAqua, the Greater Moncton Wastewater Commission (GMWC), held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at the TransAqua Administration Building in Riverview, highlighting the organization’s accomplishments in 2025 and outlining priorities for the year ahead.

For more than 42 years, TransAqua has provided wastewater treatment services to the residents of Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview. The Commission announced that the 2026 Residential Unit Rate will remain frozen at $210, unchanged since 2016.

TransAqua continued to increase engagement and education programs and made progress on several infrastructure projects including illegal contaminant detection and wastewater heat recovery construction. This work also included the implementation and expansion of its Effluent Water System project, which redirects treated effluent back into the treatment process. In 2025, the initiative reduced potable water consumption by 50% and the associated water bill by more than $370,000, allowing those savings to be reinvested into operations and infrastructure.

The Commission also reported that its wastewater treatment operations continue to perform well below federally mandated regulatory limits, ensuring that high-quality treated water is safely returned to the Petitcodiac River. All approved compost (21,430 m3) was reintroduced back into the community by the public, local landscapers, contractors, municipalities, and the agricultural sector contributing to the green circular economy. The demand for our Category A (highest quality in Canada) far outweighs supply.

Looking ahead to 2026, TransAqua will focus on several key initiatives aimed at strengthening operations, improving infrastructure reliability, and advancing sustainability. Planned projects include preparation for the replacement of the main pumping station transformer, the commissioning of Phase 4 of the Effluent Water System, commissioning the Wastewater Heat Recovery System and gathering more information for the GMWC Biosolids Management Strategy options including completing a feasibility study for anaerobic digestion. TransAqua will also continue to enhance its operational efficiency through improved asset management practices, the development of a critical equipment spare parts inventory, and a continued focus on energy management. In addition, TransAqua will launch a new website to better support public engagement and communication.

Following the AGM, the Commission held its annual organizational meeting to elect executive officers. The 2026 Executive Officers are:

  •       Nicolas Cormier, Chair

  •       Mona-Lisa Lavallée, Treasurer

  •        Éric ArsenaultSecretary
